Zenith’s Online Video Forecasts 2017 report predicts that online vide views are set to grow by 20% this year. This trend will be driven by a 35% increase in viewing on mobile devices to 28.8 minutes a day, while viewing on fixed devices (PCs, laptops and smart TVs) is going to increase by just 2% to 18.6 minutes a day.
Global consumers will spend an average of 47.4 minutes a day watching videos online in 2017, up from 39.6 minutes in 2017. The growth is largely caused by mobile devices with views jumping 35% to 28.8 minutes daily.
According to the report, viewing video content on mobile devices will grow 25% in 2018 and 29% in 2019, due to the spread of smartphones and tablets, improved displays and faster mobile data connections.
It is predicted that by 2019 mobile devices are going to account for 71% of all online video viewing, up grom 61% in 2017.
Zenith also forecasts that online video adspend will grow 23% to $27.2bn, up from $22.2bn in 2016.
