More than a quarter of media consumption is going to be mobile in 2019, up from 19% last year, according to figures from Zenith’s Media Consumption Forecast.
Zenith published its third edition of the Media Consumption Forecast, which deals with media consumption trends and patterns. The research was conducted in 71 countries across the world.
According to the report, people around the world spend an average of 122 minutes a day accessing the internet on their mobile devices. An amount that has increased substantially from just 10 minutes a day in 2010. Zentih forecasts that mobile internet use will account for 26% of global media consumption by 2019.
Mobile internet consumption grown at an average rate of 44% per year between 2010 and 2016, thanks to the increasing popularity of mobile devices, technological progress and greater availability of mobile-adapted content.
Zenith also states that 71% of global internet consumption will be mobile in 2017. The regions that have embraced mobile internet use the fastest are North America (where 76% of internet use is mobile) and Asia Pacific (75%).
Despite the quick rise of the internet, traditional media – newspapers and magazines, broadcast television and radio, cinema and outdoor advertising – will still account for 69% of global media consumption in 2017.
