10-minute email. Does it really work?

Do you know what temporary emails are and when you can use them? Or are you looking for some solution to the plethora of SPAM you receive every day? In this article, we will explain what a 10-minute email is and discuss what its advantages and disadvantages are.

Why 10-minute emails are gaining popularity

Imagine that you want to register on some site, but you have doubts about its credibility, or you know that apart from the registration confirmation link you don’t feel like receiving other emails from the company in question. By default, you can create some kind of additional email address to which later unwanted messages will come, but there is also a much simpler way – generate a temporary email address to protect against SPAM and unsafe sites. This way, you will not only avoid littering your main email inbox, but also protect yourself from scammers who want to phish for your data.

What distinguishes temporary email addresses

First of all, as the name suggests, temporary email addresses are terminated after a certain period of time. The default is 10 minutes, but the user can usually extend the time to 30 minutes or even an hour (this is useful when the site is overloaded and the registration confirmation does not arrive). The 10-minute emails only allow you to read and download incoming messages, you can’t use them to send out emails (which is a safeguard should you want to send out SPAM yourself). What’s more, temporary email addresses do not require any registration or sensitive data, and are free of charge.

What are the advantages of using 10-minute emails

If you want to download something one time from a particular site, there is a very high probability that you will also be required to sign up for advertising messages right away, which not everyone feels like doing. In such a situation, it is best to use the 10-minute email. This is also a useful feature if you want to see additional material offered by the company (where often some tabs and content are only available to those who are logged in), or you are afraid you are dealing with a potentially dangerous site. On many sites, you’ll encounter a message that you can get some stuff completely “free,” but once you sign up, you’re suddenly required to provide your bank account or credit card number. You probably then regret that the company has already gained so much valuable information about you. With a 10-minute email, there is no such problem.

When using a temporary email doesn’t make sense

First of all, a temporary email is not a substitute for an inbox, due to the expiration after a few minutes we may lose valuable messages. So it’s not worth using a 10-minute email when we want to cooperate with someone, make a purchase and shipping information is to come to the email, or want to correspond by email with friends. Temporary emails do not share your data, so incoming messages are not personalized. 10-minute email addresses are also blocked by some companies, so keep in mind that this is not always the best option.

What you can do as a company to prevent messages from being considered SPAM

When running a business, you certainly don’t want potential customers to use a 10-minute email and provide non-existent data, but how do you prevent this? At iPresso, you’ll find solutions to help you increase user engagement and loyalty, and your messages won’t be considered SPAM, so recipients will gladly share their data:

  • Collect data with short and clear forms
  • Use so-called lead magnets, i.e. small gifts for registering and giving marketing consent
  • Demonstrate the credibility of your site through ongoing updates and new content
  • Take advantage of audience segmentation and personalize messages.

Summary

Temporary email addresses help keep your main inbox from becoming cluttered and data from leaking to potentially dangerous sources. They have a wide range of uses, but they are not a replacement for traditional mail and should not be considered the equivalent of an inbox.
